JOHN ADDISCOTT (9/3/40-9/2/42) |
Below is the service record of John Leslie Addiscott who served on HMS
Nigeria as an Artificer (engineer) from September 3, 1940 to September
2, 1942. I would note that the section relating to HMS Nigeria is somewhat
misleading as it appears his promotion to an officer was back dated. Click

CHARLES DARBY (1/5/44-5/5/46) |
Below is the service record of Charles Darby who served on HMS Nigeria
as an Electrical Artificer from January 5, 1944 to May 5, 1946. During
this service he was awarded the British Empire Medal (an exceptional achievement)
and the award letter from King George VI is included. At the present time
there is no information regarding the events that led to the award of this
prestigious medal and the award letter (dated, June 12, 1946) states that
it involved, "valuable services during the war in the Far East".
As Charles Darby was only in the Far East on HMS Nigeria, the incident
leading to this award probably happened during this service. Any information
regarding the award of this medal to Charles Darby would be greatly appreciated,
including any guidance on how to obtain government information regarding
the award of a BEM. Anyone with such information should contact Geoff Darby. Click on the documents below to view them:
